A Culinary Journey to the French Riviear

December 20, 2022 by midlandtx Leave a Comment

This is not a Weston A. Price Foundation event but one that we thought might interest our members.

Hosted by WAPF Honorary Board Member and Teaching Chef Monica Corrado, and WAPF member Barbie Aknin!

A Culinary Journey to the French Riviera

Join us at Simca Beck’s former home where the magic happened!

The trip of a lifetime for fans of Julia Child & Simca.

September 23-30, 2023

We’ll spend seven nights and days in the former summer home of Simca Beck where recipes were created for the Mastering the Art of French Cooking series of books.

Our week will be filled with cooking, sight-seeing, and soaking up the spirit of Provence!

Teaching Chef Monica Corrado will join Barbie Aknin of Community Cuisine for a WAP- focused trip featuring excursions that include local farmers markets, traditional cheese makers, butchers, and farms. WAP-focused cooking classes and dinners with Monica and Barbie featuring the traditional foods and preparation techniques of WAP and France, including bone broths, cultured dairy, lacto-fermented foods, and properly prepared grains.

Surrounded by mountains, the sea, olive groves, wineries, lavender fields, and rows of cypress, we’ll stay seven nights at the home of Simone Beck, next-door to Julia’s former home.

Excursions for our small group of no more than fourteen are unique. They’re structured yet organic, with wiggle room to adjust our plans and menus according to the season.

Program (subject to change)

Stay at the former homes of Simone Beck

Visit with Frederique and Isabelle’s heritage pig farm in the local mountains, and feast at their home

Go to Julia Child’s favorite open-air market in Cannes, and another in Valbonne for traditional regional specialties such as olive oil, local honey, lavender, and more

Tour the French Alps and medieval villages for stunning views where Picasso, Chagall and Renoir stayed

Spend a day in a Michelin Kitchen for a cooking class with the chef and his staff…and lunch!

Visit a Cistercian monastery and winery, founded circa 410.

Visit seaside towns

All this, along with traditional cooking classes in the homes of Simone Beck, where recipes for Mastering the Art of French Cooking were created!

Space is limited! Only 14 spaces available!
