Food Standards Agency Consultation: The Future of Raw Milk

March 14, 2014 by WAPF London

Congress Centre, London 31 March 2014

The Food Standards Agency is currently consulting on the future of raw milk regulations and has put forward the chance to hear your views on the subject!

In a public event the impact of future changes to the controls governing the sale of raw drinking milk will be considered from both sides of the debate.

Up for discussion will be the recently published options for updating the rules governing the sale of raw milk in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Many of you have been following the developments of the FSA’s 12-month consultation on the future of raw milk. The consultation will result in anything from the removal of restrictions to a total ban on the sales of raw milk.

The event will give the opportunity to hear from speakers involved in the production of raw milk, the wider dairy industry and policy makers. Also present will be the Chair and Chief Executive of the FSA and board members who will be making the final recommendations for updating the raw milk controls.

There will also be presentations from:
Steve Hook, Hook & Son
Debbie Vernon, Ellies Dairy
Phil Ridley, WAPF & Campaign for Real Milk, London Chapter Leader

This half day event will be a fantastic, possibly one-off, chance to defend the values of raw milk and have your voice heard. We are expecting it to be a lively discussion on a topic many of you will no doubt feel passionate about.

All the views and discussion will feed into the current consulation on the raw milk regulations. Do not miss out on this chance to protect our right to the production and consumption of raw milk.

Space on the event is limited. To register click here as soon as possible, you will receive an email to confirm your place.

For directions and more information on the event click here.

Help A Local Independent Dairy Farm Stay Alive

March 12, 2014 by WAPF London

Now undergoing a forced relocation and facing financial danger, Foot Dairy are reaching out for support to help them survive and continue providing their loyal customers with the highest quality raw milk and pasture-fed beef available.

Approved supplier with the Pasture Fed Livestock Association, The Calf at Foot Dairy has a loyal following of devoted customers in Suffolk.

The herd however, has been given notice to leave their home in Hollesley Bay and the unexpected move to their new Home Farm of Somerleyton will put a great strain and risk on the finances of their dairy – so they desperately need your help!

Supporting and keeping independent businesses like Foot Dairy alive is integral to the promotion of healthy products such as raw milk and pasture-fed beef.
Foot Dairy are looking to raise £5000 through crowd-funding website Crowd Funder to allow them to carry on supplying their local doorstep delivery customers.

In return, donators will be gifted with one of a number of rewards, ranging from a signed photo of thanks from Bluebell the cow herself, a cookery course from their cordon bleu chef, to the chance of learning how to set up your own calf at Foot Dairy.

In order for Foot Dairy to receive their funding however, and for you to enjoy your unique gift, they must reach their target of £5000 by the 27th March. So do not waste any time!

For more information and to donate click here.

Fiona Provan’s Calf at Foot Dairyin Suffolk is unique. Her small herd of 100% pasture-fed Jersey cows produce fabulous raw milk, as well as pasture-fed veal and beef.

The secret at Foot Dairy is compassion. Their cows at the Calf keep their precious calves who are then gently weaned far older than usually happens in the dairy industry, keeping both mum and calf happy. The taste of the raw milk and pasture-fed veal and beef from a happy herd is second to none!

The health benefits of pasture-fed meat and also those of raw milkis becoming more widely known, so the more you pledge the further word will spread and more people will benefit from these amazing health giving foods.

Weston A. Price at CAM Conference on Cardiovascular Health

March 10, 2014 by WAPF London

Cardiovascular Health & BANT AGM

Saturday 15 March 2014,

Cavendish Conference Centre, London.

Working closely with the British Association for applied nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT), CAM Conferences are a series of high-quality, high-end education events for practitioners of complementary and alternative medicine. Inviting only the best, internationally-renowned speakers on each featured topic.

Director of the annual Weston A. Price Foundation’s European conference, Philip Ridley, will be in attendance this Saturday delivering his talk: ‘Cholesterol, the essential sterol for heart health’

Being supporters of traditional, nutrient dense foods is controversial today, since most of our most nutrient dense foods are those rich in cholesterol and saturated fats. Philip will present evidence that these foods are in fact protective against heart disease, that cholesterol and saturated fats are essential nutrients and that statin drugs may cause rather than prevent heart disease. The hypothesis presented is that heart disease is a modern condition brought on by malnutrition, toxicity and modern processed foods. Philip will also discuss the far reaching implications for public policy.

Philip’s talk will take place between 4pm-5pm.

This weekend’s conference will also include talks from Paul Clayton on ‘How muscle, bone, liver, and adipose tissue drive – and cure – diabesity and sarcopenia.’

and Professor Svend Aage Mortensen on ‘How a new, natural treatment may restore cardiovascular health.’

For more information and to book your place click here.

Exhibitors at the conference will include:

Premier Research Labs | Biolab Medical Unit | Genova Diagnostics Europe | Green People | Igennus | Mycology Research Laboratories | Nutri Advanced, Pharma Nord | Revital | San Omega GmbH | Schwabe Pharma | Invivo Clinical | Rio Trading | Alliance for Natural Health | HeartMath UK

Food Standards Agency Attempt Further Restrictions On The Sale of Raw Milk – Act Now!

February 1, 2014 by WAPF London

The British government’s Food Standards Agency will recommend in a consultation document, that the sale of raw milk in outlets, including vending machines or dispensers in shops, should remain illegal.

Whilst farmers are to be allowed to continue selling raw milk at markets, from their own farms, and over the internet, the FSA will be attempting to continue the move for tighter restrictions on the sale of unpasteurised milk.

After threatening Sussex farmer, Stephen Hook,  in December 2011 with legal action for selling raw milk from his farm in Hailsham at a branch of Selfridges to consumers enjoyining the health benefits provided, the FSA has since begun a three-month consultation.

In a review which will apply to England, Wales and Northern Ireland (as raw milk is already banned in Scotland), it will include the option to make all milk pasteurised before it goes on sale, therefore completely banning raw milk.

Philip Ridley, Festival Director, Weston A. Price Foundation European Conference:

Britain’s Food Standards Agency have launched a review of raw milk legislation. As anticipated, an outright ban is not on the table, but further restrictions are proposed that will cause cumulative harm and may lead to further restrictions later if not resisted.

The FSA are seeking to harmonise bovine raw milk regulations with those of other species. This means that they are proposing an outright ban on the retail of non-bovine milk. This will specifically effect Ellie’s Dairy whose frozen grass-fed raw milk is available across Britain in health food stores. A number of other stalls presently retail raw goat milk.

Despite raw milk vending machines being used across Europe without incident and with very high, automated hygiene standards, they are seeking to ban and provide tougher restrictions on it’s retail. Yet it is, and has been, available in many European countries including Germany, where regulated raw milk sales have continued to this day since the 1930’s.

It is especially worthy of note that there has not been any outbreak associated with raw milk in Britain for decades, and that the FSA themselves have accepted that there is no evidence of any risk as a result.

Please CLICK HERE the link below to provide your comments by 30th April 2014.

But more importantly contact your MP, because the proposed changes will likely require legislation that may go before Parliament, noting the lack of consistency with the Coalition’s aim to cut red tape and encourage economic growth.

Raw Milk, Quality & Health, Prof. Ton Baars:

Prof. Ton Baars is speaking at our next conference about the benefits and disctions of raw milk. Above is the video of his talk from our conference in 2012 about raw milk quality and health, with an introduction from Sally Fallon Morell about the importance of raw milk to the small family farm.

Cod Liver (S)oil: What is the perfect food for bacteria? They need protein, sugars, water, and for explosive bacterial growth they need B vitamins and enzymes.

In the second part of David Wetzel’s discussion, he will describe the benefits of using a by-product of cod liver oil as a soil conditioner and raw milk as a fertiliser, pesticide, and an anti-fungal. Discussing his experiences adding liquid fish, molasses, and other real foods to the soil in small quantities David will describe the results of his experiments.

Stephanie will explore the connection between the rise in the usage of engineered “Roundup-ready” monocrops, and the parallel increase of autism rates, digestive problems, and the possibility of links to Alzheimer’s, obesity, depression, and breast cancer.

Saturday 2pm – 4pm:

Internationally renowned for her research in frontier science and medicine, Beverly Rubik PhD will be joining us at the Weston A. Price Foundation European Conference to deliver a two-part talk demonstrating the efficacy of a natural wholefoods diet titled “Health Under the Microscope”.
