Amy and Peter had our group back this month to their sweet homestead in southern Petaluma to pick and process apples! Almost 30 people showed up to harvest, chop, picnic and chat.
Here Amy is asking us to work gently with the trees and say thanks as we pick. Buddy, the puppy, and Angel are enjoying the talk.
We picked Gravenstein, Red Gravenstein, Fuji and Golden Delicious apples. Since it has been a dry year, the yield was low.
Working with Nature ~ picking conscientiously.
Here we washed the apples and rinsed with vinegar.
Sorting apples for baking and for juice and chutney.
Beautiful apples!
A cross between apple pie and cobbler. A soaked buckwheat yogurt dough was on the bottom and an almond crumble was on the top. Yum!
Chopping finely for chutney.
Our vat of chutney.
The Norwalk apple press!
Our generous hosts, Amy and Peter.
The final products: chutney and apple soda to ferment and apple pie!
